Much to my surprise, the country that consumes the most.TEA...are you ready for it? It is Turkey. Russia is also a huge tea drinking nation. Who would have thunk it. Second place goes to Ireland, where many consume 4-6 cups of tea per day. Perhaps the rainy climate has something to do with it. Many drink more than that. An Irish 'cuppa' is usually filled with milk because in the early days the tea was shipped from England and it was, so to speak, from the bottom of the barrel. They had to ease the pain by adding milk and often sugar. In the 1960's, the Irish started buying their own tea straight from Assam in India. Our Irish Breakfast is from there as well. It's tasty enough that milk and sugar are not necessary. Although, that milk in Ireland is truly a gift from God.
